About Us
A Letter from the Co-Presidents
Dear North Carolina,
In 2020, we lived in a pandemic that killed millions of people around the world. Since then, there have been rapid medical innovations, drastic policy changes, and vaccine developments that changed lives.
But as the world becomes more advanced, our modes of communication lose accuracy and impact. With polarized news channels, agenda-driven social media content, and a highly divided America, public health misinformation has become rampant. Right here in North Carolina, peer-reviewed sources are describing declines in elementary measles vaccinations, PFAS detections in blood samples, and disparities in cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity. The list of public health issues impacting us grows, and we are being kept uninformed about topics that directly impact our well-being.
We're a group of UNC students, hailing from the same communities as you, and we got tired of watching public health information fall flat. As a result, we created The Public Health Studio. We’re a non-partisan organization of passionate students and filmmakers, aiming to combat public health misinformation, making reliable peer-reviewed research readily accessible, impactful, and entertaining through short-film videography.
On behalf of our team at UNC, we hope that you join us in the journey to bring awareness to issues backed by evidence. Watch, share, and help us spread what’s true!
With excitement for what’s to come,
Beyza Guvenc and Ishani Gandi
Co-Presidents, The Public Health Studio at UNC
